The Department of Reading assembles and performs different modes of reading. In part online-based, but situated in specific spatial configurations, it pays particular attention to the adjacent space of reading, which cannot be told apart from the body of the text itself. In order to reflect on the place of the reader the Department of Reading turns within its practice towards the gesture, elements of repetition as well as the concept of the margin. It translates the experiences coming forth from its readings into the online space given with Wiki and Skype as well as the format of the book. Up to the programming of new technological modules the Department of Reading has realised around thirty readings so far, the Symposium for Readers and has recently published Echo's Book.
In approaching the space of reading as a threshold within the text, an empty place that resides in any act of reading and writing, the Department of Reading aims at furthering its practice as such. Here, the commonality inherent to reading and writing comes into sight as well. Currently the Department of Reading follows within three series different rhythms, temporalities and intensities of reading. In order to participate in a session of the Department of Reading, all you need is an account on Skype and a connection to the Internet (contact). |
