Dear friends, colleagues, fellow artists!
We'd like to invite you to join us during the Workshop Inverse Institution, taking place from September 23rd to 27th in the project space of Flutgraben e.V.
Since several years we are working as the board of Flutgraben e.V. collectively , aiming to provide its common area, the project space, to collective, emancipatory and self-organized artistic practices. We have come to call our way of working in the project space Inverse Institution. For us Inverse Institution is a manner of paying attention to seemingly minor aspects of institutionality, which, we believe, nonetheless determine which practices the institution can possibly host, and what meaning it can produce and articulate. As a means to distance ourselves from top-down exploitative, solo-centric and competitive procedures in the art field, we'd like to find out and formulate together, how another collective and inter-dependent institutional model could look like and how we can put it into practice.
Inverse Institution as a program enables us to look at relations of power, reward and duration in the way we produce art and its context with each other. It encourages us to gradually convert relations between guests and hosts, between visible/invisible and rewarded/less rewarded labor, and to shift our notion of the general public towards an interrelated group of solidary colleagues.
Within the upcoming Inverse Institution Workshop we'd like to share these issues, our questions, approaches and methods with you. We'd also like to use the chance of many people being gathered together to pursue some relevant questions that come forth from our joint experiences in self-organized groups.
We meet from Monday to Friday in the project space of Flutgraben e.V. The preliminary schedule will be sent to all participants on Friday 20th. Our first meeting will take place on Monday 23rd and will be used to introduce each other and gain an overview on the week and its topics. Practical work during the workshop will be shared (like cooking and taking care of the space and each others needs).
We'd like to ask you to register in advance, until latest Saturday 21st of September by sending an email to email@example.com, stating in two lines why you'd like to participate.
Please get back to us if you have any questions, suggestions and ideas.
Please let us know if you will participate!
Have a look at attached flyer for further info!
Yours in solidarity,
Inga, Jo, Lydia und Sönke
